New Year/Focus/Website

  • by

Everything is slowly coming together, even Frankie and Shucks, Yonderways’ two pigs in residence. We adopted Frankie, the cute white piggy, back in early December. He lived at a potbelly rescue for many years. He is deaf and suffered bullying from the herd due to being defenseless when approached. Pigs are pack animals and their socialization and herd order depend on dominance and submission. Introduction here at Yonderways required the two being safely separated with supervised interactions several times a week. The interactions aka fights (ear biting, chomping and rushing) were brutal but quick. No piggy suffered serious injury but there was blood on occasion. After one month’s time, and through their own means, they appear to have called a truce, with Frankie winning out as alpha and big ole’ baby Shucks submitting to his lead. This is how we found them yesterday. Frankie gets to enjoy being head hog, and Shucks gets a much needed companion. Life is good and exactly how the head of the rescue had envisioned their relationship would go upon meeting us and Shucks almost two years ago.

And just like the pigs, our personal lives are slowly coming together (minus the ear biting). We’re finally falling into toddler rhythm; routine bedtimes, play times, potty times, behavioral expectations, scattered toys, etc. Priss is a 3yo delight but a handful, especially for two 59 year olds. Keith’s job is steady, and I am finding my way to make room for a goal I’ve had for quite some time; writing a book. But John Irving (my favorite contemporary author) I will never be. Miss potty mouth is attempting – wait for it – a children’s book. <<This and President Trump are sure signs the apocalypse is near. I will be more forthcoming once my final draft is submitted, but I can tell you that Priss is the main character and the setting is Yonderways, and all human and animal souls play a supporting role in the colorful, slightly exaggerated/magical/quirky grandfamily adventure.

Which brings me to the website and it’s new purpose…the journal will no longer be the focus of the website. I’m not ready to totally abandon the entries, but let’s face it, I’ve treated the journal like a red-headed stepchild for months. The website will feature The Acorn rental cabin first and foremost, we will also offer up Yonderways branded gear and jewelry, and if I can ever secure a publisher I hope to eventually feature the book as well. Please stay tuned for new changes and join us on Facebook and Instagram (select the icons) to stay abreast of our latest.

Best to you in this new year and thank you for your encouragement! ~ donna
