Our Lottery

  • by

I don’t know how to write this news because I simply can’t wrap my head around my emotions! We didn’t get one, not two, but THREE full-price CASH offers on our present home!! Actually, that’s not exactly true…one of the contingency buyers offered us $15k above asking!! The kicker – we have to be out of our home by September 29th and don’t close on yonderways ’til October 1st (and we hope and pray the renters presently living there are out).

We feel like we just won the lottery, but we’re also freaking out! I’m having pods delivered to the house next week to start the arduous task of packing/storing and purging. The next 3.5 weeks are going to be BRUTAL. On top of which we need to find a place to live for a week, PRONTO.

I feel like I’ve got two squirrels chasing one another in my pea brain. Two martinis have served to slow the squirrels to a saunter this evening, but at the core of it all is the pile of acorns to sort. With 20 moves under my belt (See what I did there? I’m blaming my girth on the moves.), I’m much more seasoned than most, but moving is still a thankless, emotional and physical slap in the face of the second commandment; the sin of attachment to riches and material goods.

We’ve got ENTIRELY too much stuff!!!

We’ve put our growns on notice – it’s now or never. Come get whatever you wish of the many once-loved treasures that don’t make the cut to our much smaller quarters or forever be resolved that those items are being released to be cherished by someone else.

I’m too scatterbrained to write this evening, but I did want to mention that Keith and I are sharing Pinterest pins with one another with blissful abandon. His pins have many built-in grills, stoves, refrigerators, and kegerators. Mine are more little details oriented. We have settled on exterior paint colors. The picture is below. For every other house we’ve lived in our biggest goal was staying neutral for good resale value. But our forever-home allows us choices beyond our old confines. The darker color will be the siding, the green will be the shutters and the blue will be our front door. The trim will be a contrasting crisp white. The blue will be predominant throughout the interior as well.

While exterior paint colors seem out of place in this post, know it’s about the only definitive conclusion I could muster today.

  1. This is sooooo exciting! I understand your dilemmas, having moved many times as well. You’re settling into “adulthood” with the little cabin in the woods. Your place to grow, love and experience a new and precious phase of life. Hoping to begin my own journey in a couple of years. While in my 60s now, trying to hang on for the magical 66 to hit! In the meantime, will live vicariously through your adventure. Now, get packing!

  2. You have a place to live for a week…or two or three or whatever it takes to get you from Long John Mtn to Younderways, critters included. Worry about something else! Scratch that, worry is a waste of time. I know. I’m am expert. You and Keith do NOT have to worry about the two closings coming together. LOVE YA, nrl aka TCB
