FYI - my name is Jake and I am a 9th grader at PIA - of course PIA is my homeschool. My dad was transferred to Puebla, Mexico in 2002. I began school at a private, bi-lingual school in the city, but had a hard time concentrating on my studies. My parents and I decided to begin our own high school to help me continue my American studies so that I could be ready for college in the US when I graduate. So far, so good....mom and I are having a good time. My mom is my primary teacher, but my dad helps me with math. My typical day goes like this: 10:00 classes begin (I must have showered, straightened my room and had my breakfast) - I am studying algebra, social studies, earth science, language arts, Bible and am reading several literature books a month. 1:00 lunch break 1:30 - 3:00 finish instructions 3:00 - 6:30 free-time (usually read, play drums, play on the internet, visit with friends) evening - homework, read, watch tv (we get many American stations)
I have many friends here in Mexico, and on Fridays I either go to a friend's house or several of my friends come here. On Saturdays I usually play paintball or go to the movies. There are plenty of fun things to do in Puebla...I am hoping my parents will join a sports club. It's a private club where many of my friends hang out on the weekends and afternoons. The best thing about being homeschooled is I get to sleep late and I get to read laying on my sofa in my room!! I also get to travel to the states for long periods and visit with my friends and family in North Carolina.
