Pearl Types
There are three broad types of pearls; natural pearls, salt water pearls and fresh water pearls. Both salt water and fresh water pearls are considered cultured pearls. Cultured pearls are still real pearls that are grown organically inside oysters in the same way as natural pearls. The difference is that in the case of cultured pearls, the pearl farmer intentionally stimulates the development of the pearl by inserting a "nucleus" into the oyster. Learn more...

Pearl Value
A number of factors determine the value of a pearl.
Luster - This is the glow on the surface, not to be confused with the slightly iridescent colors that seem to be under the skin of the pearl.
Size - Generally, the larger the pearl, the rarer and more valuable it is.
Shape - A critical factor, the most expensive being the perfect sphere.
Skin - The fewer blemishes, the higher the quality.
Matching - This is obviously important when determining the quality of a whole strand.
Color - Although color is an individual choice, it is sometimes used as a factor to determine value especially in white/cream pearls.

Additionally, Shop Yonderways ships merchandise to Canada and Mexico, but not to other international locations.
