In the midst of purging and packing I decided to have a sale. My original plan was to have a traditional rummage sale and invite friends and family, but a few things came up so I decided to give a small online auction a go. The rules were simple – all items started at $1 no matter their real value, and there were no reserves. So, the auction was absolute. Whomever had the highest bid @ closing won the item. I invited approximately 80 folks and of those 32 participated. Of the 32 participants, only 12 persons were winning bidders.
All went swimmingly well with the FREE wordpress plugin application until checkout. Aye yi yi – Invoicing was a bit of a nightmare (understatement), but my daughter and I worked out all the figures and notified everyone promptly. We heard from most all the active participants and the auction format was a super hit. Folks got really competitive towards the end placing a combined total of 400 bids the hour before closing. I had full access to the admin page of the website allowing me to view the bids in real time and I had a blast! And while everyone walked away with some very fair bargains I feel like I made a great deal of money with no commission or listing fees, AND my beloved things are going to my beloved friends. Win-win! In all honesty I should have listed 3x more things than I did, but if I had any doubts about an item’s usefulness or joy I held on to it this go around. Once the renovations are completed and we’re settled I may have another purge.
Moving Updates: The close of our present home has been delayed two weeks due to the septic issues I mentioned in an earlier post. It’s just a matter of getting the county out to do their thing. But the close of yonderways is still set for October 1st. A large portion of the upstairs has been packed, but there’s still much packing awaiting my attention downstairs. My oldest has driven up from Atlanta for the last two weeks to help with my small business and with packing. There’s absolutely no way I would have accomplished all that I have without her assistance! We’ve gone through several rolls of packing tape, but she and I haven’t thought to try this trick yet. 😉
