Fingers crossed we’re a week away from a CO – certificate of occupancy that is issued by the county giving us the thumbs up that renovations have been completed to code. This means our loan funds will be released to the extremely patient and kind sellers currently holding the mortgage, and the home will be ready for MOVE IN!! It’s been so long it almost doesn’t seem real.
The countertops were installed yesterday, and despite the color lot debacle, the second time ’round proved close enough. I will not be able to use the tile backsplash we originally chose, but that’s an easy fix.
The electrician should be through with all wiring this week, the plumber is due back in today and tomorrow. The gas piping installer will be back next week to hook up all appliances after the landscaper buries the tank and excavates the yard and hauls in a bit more rock for a new parking area. The last dumpster is being hauled off today – a total of 10 were used. Keith and I are working to install doors and finish all trim, but that isn’t essential for the CO.
And just because the CO will be issued doesn’t mean our work is finished – on the contrary. In many respects our work will just be beginning. Once we’re moved out of The Acorn we will need to prepare it for guest accommodations. We will also be working hard to get the critter pens finished. I also have loads of upholstery and painting projects to complete for both cottages. Also, the land is a mess at present from the downed trees, limbs, and brush Duke Energy cut for the new service lines.
BUT – all the work ahead will be tempered by air conditioning, a real stove/oven, dishwasher, a bath tub, and most importantly A WASHER AND DRYER!!
Last night I visited the laundry mat for what I hope is the last time. But the only way I could muster myself to the miserable place was to pack my own liquid inspiration. Here’s to having the luxury of laundering at home once again – Cheers!
VERY worthy Toast! But, no Salt?
My libation of choice is a tini martini with a twist. Alas, I forgot to pack the twist. 😉
