Crack House

Crack House

The events of the last two weeks are beginning to take their toll – cracked shower base, cracked tub, cracked laundry sink. Then there’s the couple who walked from our investment home contract 10 days before close. These things and the close of my pearl business, and the start of my new web design business have me a “tidge” stressed to the point of eye twitches, involuntary body tics, and a bit of situational Tourette’s (or maybe it’s just my regular cussing turned up a few notches).

I shared my state of emotional decline (partly tongue and cheek) on social media and a well meaning friend responded with, “This, too, shall pass”. UM…I absolutely DESPISE that phrase. “This, too, shall pass” is trite, a cop out, and a blow off (my take, and not my dear friend’s intention). BUT OF COURSE this shit’s gonna pass whether I’m here to see it or not!  Then there’s the throat punch worthy, “it must be God’s will”. Maybe old testament, Job’s God, “hey-Satan-watch-this-peon-worship-me-while-I’m-being-an-asshole” God. No need for me to be sharing my warped theologies…back to the crack house.

The bathroom fixtures have given us fits and that’s what prompted the post title. The new metal roof will be finished today, and the remaining siding will be finished by the end of the week. The roof proved tedious; much prep was involved due to the age and unevenness that really wasn’t noticeable until work began. Keith and I will be playing with paint colors over the weekend. Once upon a time the house was painted a very dark brown and we’re thinking of going back to something very similar, but I’ll save that for another post.

Good news, only hours after our investment home went back on the market we received 3 new offers! Fingers crossed we will be closing in two weeks with a cash offer, and that’s only one week out from the original contract (but with considerably more money on the table). Nancy Witek of Beverly-Hanks Realty has used her superpowers once again to make things happen for us.

Our fabulous contractors, whom I plan to do a profile on soon, have seen me at my best and very worst. And when the restoration is complete we will still be friends for life. There’s no way Keith and I could have handled this project on our own – no way, whatsoever. We are completely indebted to these fellas for their hard work and networking to find us great subcontractors. Now, getting the subcontractors to show has been another issue, but they’re making it happen just the same.

All this to say things are coming along, cracks and all….AND –random — we’re getting our three ducks this week! Pictures of ducks to come soon, in the meantime here’s a shot of our kitchen decor. We’re keeping things very neutral so as to blend with the existing rock fireplace that is in part of the kitchen and so that I can utilize my Mexican Talavera pottery freely.

  1. And, when I saw “Crack House” I was hoping you were selling crack again — the Lyerly peanut brittle kind!

    1. Hahaha – sorry, Rhonda, not yet. But there’s a commercial kitchen available to us up the road we can rent daily. So, hopefully we can get back selling Carolina Crack for Christmas. 😉
