My posts are becoming more and more infrequent. Between the holiday rush, our grand Priss, and renovations there’s not been a minute or a clear thought to spare or share. The holidays are a blur and I’m glad to have them behind us. Christmas morning we celebrated by donning our yard boots and spreading good cheer and hay.
The yard is a mucky mess with large work trucks and dumpsters testing the once solid mossy grounds. But this week, before freezing temps set in, the yard is set to be excavated and prepared for a new concrete pad that will be part of the new front entrance. There is extensive excavation and clearing happening in the backyard as well. Much to my disappointment we’re losing a great deal of mountain laurels due to a new septic service being added. Both septic systems are being pumped tomorrow, and we’re hoping to only have to replace the main system and not the guest cottage, too, at this time.
Christmas eve was the first and only day Keith and I took off to do as we wished at our leisure. This is a rare photo of Keith relaxing. Shucks enjoyed the shared downtime as well. He’d not seen much of Keith or me for weeks before this day. This is a picture of the “barn room” in the guest cottage. The new ceiling and LED lighting enhance the rustic features of the room and it feels as cozy as it looks. We’ve replaced all the windows for the exception of the one shown. It has been special ordered since it is not a standard replacement size. Still to finish in the Acorn are some finish trim and the bathroom ceiling. As soon as all is finished I will share “after” photos. Honestly, but for a few more amenities I could be very comfortable living in this small space. And while I once romanticized living in a 200sf tiny home, I realize there’s NO WAY! I need a quiet corner to write, reflect, and savor my daily martini.
We sent out a holiday greeting to family and friends featuring the property as it was on January 1st. The sentiment read: Wishing everyone less “befores” and many more “afters” in 2016. Presently the property is so stinkin’ depressing. Everything had to be torn down to the guts before it could be rebuilt. Starting next week the rebuilding begins. New electrical, plumbing, septic, insulation, underpinning, on demand hot water, propane gas logs/stove/grill, HVAC, new bathrooms, new custom kitchen, new windows/doors and hardy board siding with new entrance porch. And all this has to happen in 6 weeks!!
