According to Internet sources the word “Tahoe” has several meanings;
Tahoe is a Washoe Indian word, generally believed to mean “Big Water” or “Big Blue”. While no exact definition has ever been agreed upon, many have interpreted the word to mean many things. Mark Twain, while visiting Lake Tahoe in his earlier days, was said to have defined Tahoe as “Grasshopper Soup”. Jan 30, 2012
The meaning of Tahoe to us is;
The last possible asset we have to sell to make our black hole of a life-long dream come true.
Keith made the ultimate sacrifice for Yonderways this morning. He sold his dream car, a 2014 Chevy Tahoe, to a local dealer. Keith purchased the vehicle at my insistence upon his repatriation from Shanghai almost 2 years ago. All his adult life he had wanted a Tahoe but settled for whatever car was practical and affordable as he single handedly financed all three kids through college and beyond. The Tahoe was a reward of his selfless sacrifices for his family. Yet, without so much as a blink he was willing to give it up for Yonderways – our forever home.
Keith and I are cautious, very calculated, first-child risk takers. Which means, gambling for large payoffs is NOT our thing. And yet, we’re all-in for Yonderways – literally the biggest gamble of our lives at the most vulnerable time of our lives.
Some good news that helped temper the sting of the sacrifice – By great fortune Keith’s car is worth as much today as he paid 2 years ago (even needing new tires and with higher mileage).
To date we have sold our main residence, an investment residence, our business (we were doing this regardless), borrowed money against our retirement, took out a sizable unsecured loan, and now the car. Full disclosure – the car proceeds are being used to replenish the funds we took from retirement. Then through unforeseeable circumstances, Keith’s income was significantly reduced. Remember 9 months ago when I was asking Keith if we were bat shit crazy?
Yeah…
Chris and Alan were here today tiling. Keith and I assembled a chicken coop from urbancoops.com. The guest bath/laundry room tiling is finished for the exception of another day of curing and then moping. Here is a picture of the floors (they look way more expensive than their budget friendly cost).
This is a picture of the coop in it’s temporary spot until the new piping is laid from the well house. With all the recent rain the lush land is coming into its own. The smell of the woodlands near the coop is tainted at present by a decaying carcass under the rented moving pod. One of the workers says it smells like a snake (that’s an olfactory gift right there, when you can identify animals by their death smell 🙂 ). Life and death get real in the holler.
